What to Expect After Microneedling: Week 1

Immediately After the Microneedling Treatment

  • Redness & hot feeling from the skin treated
  • Slight swelling & puffiness of the skin
  • Tightness in the skin treated
  • Possible slight burning or tingling feeling, something similar to a sunburn

What To Do & What Not to Do 1st 24 Hours

  • No anti-inflammatory medications, such as: Ibuprofen (for first 24 hours to one week ideally)
  • Try to avoid touching your face for four hours
  • If you must touch your face to apply a serum, be sure to wash hands thoroughly first
  • Try to keep your skin moisturized with Hyaluronic – I currently use this one and love it for it’s pure ingredients and lack of alcohol
  • Avoid sunlight for at least 24 hours
  • No strenuous exercise for first 24 hours, up to first four days

What to Expect from Your Skin on Days 2-5

  • Redness & blotchiness, which will subside usually within a few days
  • Tight, dry skin that ends up looking worse at first, especially first few days (Wrinkles or lines may appear worse because skin is going through a healing process that involves it becoming quite dry the first few days after microneedling. This is normal and expected and will subside as days pass.)
  • Your skin may peel a little or become dry and flaky

What to Do on Days 2-5

  • Follow advise of the person who gave you the procedure, unless done at home
  • Keep your skin moisturized with natural products like Hyaluronic serum – I currently use this one and love it for it’s pure ingredients and lack of alcohol
  • Some clinics recommended the use of collagen-stimulating peptides
  • No makeup for at least 24 hours, but I prefer 3 days
  • When you resume using makeup, be sure to thoroughly disinfect and wash makeup brushes & sponges first
  • Use a natural, non-chemical sunscreen – I highly recommend Cotz SPF 40  for those with dry skin – it is the best and I’ve tried dozens recently (this has no parabens & it has great ingredients)
  • No exfoliation of skin for first five days to a week
  • No active ingredients like Vitamin C for first week and until redness is gone
  • Around day five and onward, your skin may begin looking and feeling better and will progressively continue to improve
