If you’ve followed my previous posts, you know I’ve been on a journey to fix my sleep after struggling with 3:00 a.m. wake-ups for over a year. I initially found relief by tweaking my diet, but I’m excited to share this update: using the Luminette 3 Light Therapy Glasses has made a significant difference in resetting my body clock and helping me sleep through the night consistently. A sleep doctor recommended these glasses to my son and that’s why I first purchased them.

Diet vs. Light Therapy: What’s Made the Biggest Impact?

Previously, I shared how eating small amounts of carbohydrates, such as fruit, before bed helped stabilize my blood sugar. Pairing carbs with fat, like coconut butter, reduced nighttime glucose dips, which allowed me to fall back asleep more easily. While these dietary changes improved my sleep duration, the underlying issue of waking up at 3 a.m. persisted.

The Luminette glasses, however, have been a game-changer. Since incorporating them into my morning routine, I’ve stopped waking up in the middle of the night entirely. Lately, even on days when I’m not as strict with my diet, the glasses seem to keep my internal clock aligned. Even with saying that, this may change in the future and if it does, I’ll be sure to update you with those changes.

If you’re eating very low carb, keto, or carnivore and you’re dealing with the 3 a.m. wakeups, I recommend reading my post here on keto insomnia and 3 a.m. wakeups. It may shed some light on what you’re dealing with.

How I Use the Glasses

  • I wear them every morning for 30 minutes, usually around 5 a.m., while reading or preparing for my day.
  • They emit calibrated light wavelengths designed to mimic sunlight, helping to reset my circadian rhythm.
  • The glasses are lightweight, portable, and easy to incorporate into my routine.

Consistency has been key. Initially, I still woke up at 3 a.m. occasionally, but I could fall back asleep quickly. Over time, those wake-ups stopped altogether. This may change in the future, but as of now, I’ve been sleeping through the night.

Why the Luminette Glasses Work

Morning light exposure is essential for regulating sleep-wake cycles. The Luminette glasses stimulate receptors in your eyes that signal your brain it’s time to wake up, syncing your internal clock. For someone like me, who lives in the Midwest with long, dark winters, they’ve been a lifesaver.

Resetting My Circadian Rhythm with Light Therapy (Update)

My experience with the Luminette Light Therapy Glasses has continued to evolve, and I’ve noticed even greater improvements with consistent use. I use the glasses for about 30 minutes every morning around 5:00 a.m. while I’m reading. This has made such a big difference for my sleep.

My Sleep Transformation

In the past, I would wake up between 12:00–3:00 a.m. and couldn’t fall back asleep, no matter what I tried. It disrupted my life so much that I started going to bed as early as 6:00 p.m., but I still never felt fully rested. These wake-ups were so ingrained in my body’s clock that I thought nothing could fix them.

When I first started using the Luminette glasses, I still experienced the occasional wake-up, but I was finally able to fall back asleep. Over time, with consistent use, the 3:00 a.m. wake-ups became less frequent, and now I hardly ever wake up during the night. My typical schedule has shifted to going to bed around 8-9:00 p.m. and waking up between 4:00–5:00 a.m., and feeling much more rested.

A Surprising Discovery

I’ve experimented with other light therapy options, such as blasting bright lights in the morning at 5:00 a.m., but nothing worked to reset my circadian rhythm like the Luminette glasses. They seem to directly influence my body’s internal clock, helping it sync with a more natural sleep-wake cycle. Even when my Oura Ring occasionally records brief wake-ups that I don’t remember, I still feel refreshed and energized the next morning.

Why Light Therapy Matters

Where I live, sunlight is scarce for much of the year, so these glasses have become essential. They mimic natural sunlight, filling a gap that regular indoor lighting or even bright lamps can’t address. The portability and effectiveness of the glasses make them a great for anyone dealing with similar sleep disruptions or seasonal mood changes.

My Recommendation

If you’re struggling with early wake-ups or feeling out of sync due to limited sunlight exposure, I can’t recommend the Luminette glasses enough. My son has his own pair, and I’ve gotten a pink set for myself. Even though these are working well for me, everyone is different and it’s hard to know whether or not it will help someone else. I think it’s worth a try though, especially because they have a 30-day return policy, making it less of a risk.

Why I Love the Luminette

I never thought I could reset my body’s clock after waking up at 3:00 a.m. for over a year—but this has changed things for me and I now rely on it as an essential part of my morning routine.

The Luminette gives me the light exposure my body desperately needs to regulate my sleep-wake cycle. Since using it, my nights are generally no longer interrupted by early wake-ups.

For anyone struggling with sleep issues tied to a disrupted circadian rhythm, I can’t recommend the Luminette enough. If I could only keep one device out of all my at-home biohacking devices and gadgets, I would keep only this one because it helps my sleep that much.
