I Quit Coffee 1 Year Ago — Was It Worth It?

What Changed After 12 Months Without Coffee

Here are the biggest changes I noticed:

1. Sleep, Dreaming & REM

Immediately upon quitting, I started to remember my dreams. I haven’t experienced that since I was a teenager. My REM sleep seems to have improved and although my sleep duration hasn’t changed much, I do feel like I am sleeping a bit better.

2. More Stable Energy

Instead of crashing at 6 PM like in the past, I found I had more consistent energy throughout the day. This was a major improvement for me. Since I’m relying on real energy, I find that I now turn to exercise to feel more energized and alert.

3. Peace & Calm

Caffeine used to make me feel a little on edge, though I was unaware of it back then. It made me feel more overwhelmed than necessary and it was a level of intensity that I didn’t like, but wasn’t aware of until I quit. I now feel a lot calmer.

4. No Addictions to Anything

The biggest improvement and most important thing to me is that I am not addicted to anything. Total freedom. I no longer wake up thinking “I need coffee to function.” That shift alone has been life-changing.
