In reply to <a href="https://lifeanddiy.com/scientific-research-retractions-damage/#comment-277">Darren</a>.

Thanks, Darren! I agree that it's difficult to trust the research and studies when there are so many flaws and also corruption. I also wish people knew how little research there is on certain supplements and other things. Companies can sell any supplements they want, even if there's little to no research and consumers often assume been studied...when it isn't always the case. Like you said, there are also too many conflicts of interest.

Holly, this is amazing. Good work! I'm so glad there are brilliant people like you pointing these things out. Thank you for doing this. I had no idea there were thousands of papers retracted in a single year. I'm guessing the ones that are retracted are only the tip of the iceberg. When it's common for the RESULT of the experiment to be paid for by those with a conflict of interest, then the experiment is built around getting that result, it has become hard for me to trust almost any scientific paper. That is a shame because I know there are good, honest people out there who just want to know the truth about what they're studying. But as you've shown here, many of those honest studies might be citing dishonest papers without knowing it, so in most cases, I don't know what I can trust. One thing I do know is I trust you, Holly. You are always thoroughly honest about the methods and results of your personal experiments whether things work out in your favor or not. That's really great about you. Conversely, I remember hearing about a study long ago about sugar and child behavior. The control group was given a massive amount of sugar and the rest were given the same amount plus a little more. All of them were bouncing off the wall, so there was no difference between them. The conclusion was an increase in sugar consumption does not affect behavior in children. Pretty silly. Thank you for providing solutions at the end. I'm sure they are very useful. Besides these tools, at least we have our own data points from personal experience that we can rely on.
